I was with this discussion group last week where I was one of the listeners and learner as well. The discussion was on a topic which was related to effective leadership practices, and everyone in the room started to give and share their opinions about the best and effective leadership practices, and it was like everyone presumed to be professional leaders and giving the ideas which they thought as useful and effective.
In a way it was good to see many of the participants want to be a leader, but what was lacking with their ideas sharing and discussion was clear view of lack of proper coaching and mentoring. Having they had gone though a serious coaching in leadership, the discussion would have been more effective and fruitful for the whole group. I strongly feel, to be a good leader one has to have a great mentor and a effective coach, who guides and shows the way to a stronger and leading future.
On a final note, leadership never looks farce, rather it is people who demonstrate the leadership without proper education, coaching and guidance looks fake, ineffective and farce. Leadership is effective and one can be a good to be leader only with great hands on experience and with the help of a coach/guide who can teach the traits and skills of leadership.
